My Favorite Tech Coach Tools: Recording and Groups

My Favorite Tech Coach Tools: Recording and Groups

As a former Instructional Technology Coach, I know how overwhelming it can be to keep up with new tools. Sometimes the simplest ones make the biggest impact. That’s why I want to share the two tools I relied on the most. They saved me time, helped teachers, and kept our tech team connected.

Why Recording Tools are a Game-Changer

When you’re supporting teachers, explanations can get lost in translation. Our Recording tools solve that problem. Instead of sending a long email or repeating the same instructions, I could create a short video in minutes. These can be done through our Audio, Video, and Screen recording options.

Here’s why I loved them:

  • Fast and easy – I could record a screen tutorial on the spot.
  • Shareable anywhere – The video link worked in emails, LMS platforms, or even texts.
  • Reusable – One video could answer the same question for dozens of teachers.
  • Personal touch – Teachers saw my screen and heard my voice, which felt more supportive than a PDF.
  • Built-in analytics – I could see how often a video was viewed, which teachers were engaging with it, and where views dropped off.

That last feature was a game-changer. If only a few teachers watched a video, I knew I needed to follow up in person. If there were lots of views, I could follow up with a more detailed video since there was interest. Analytics helped me adjust my approach and meet teachers where they were.

Pro tip: Keep videos under 3 minutes. Short clips are easier for teachers to watch between classes and make analytics more meaningful.

Using Groups to Stay Connected

The other tool that changed my workflow was Groups. This feature allowed me to create spaces where teachers, staff, or coaches could all share and learn together. Instead of scattered resources across multiple emails, everything lived in one organized place.

Benefits of Groups included:

  • Central hub – All media in one spot.
  • Collaboration – Teachers/coaches could contribute to the group.
  • Access control – I could make groups private for coaches or open for all staff.
  • Consistency – Everyone saw the same information, reducing confusion.

The real power came when I combined the two tools. I’d record a quick video, drop it into my Tech Coach group, and instantly every member had access. No more chasing down email threads or re-explaining steps.

Key Takeaway

The best tools aren’t always the flashiest. Recording tools and Groups helped me communicate clearly, save time, and build stronger connections with teachers. If you’re looking for ways to simplify your coaching and make a bigger impact, start with these two tools.
